How NOT to follow directions

I am fairly good at winging it in the kitchen.  I can see something online or watch a tv show and replicate the process even if I don’t follow ALL the directions.  Most of the time it works out.  Last night, not so much.

I saw this great idea on Can You Stay for Dinner; a total must try - petite lasagnas.  The concept was simple, bake lasagna in muffin tins.  Easy enough, right?  I scanned the recipe, looked over the pictures and decided I could definitely create these babies.  I was amazed at how square her “noodles” looked but didn’t bat an eye as I closed my laptop and headed to the store.

I purchased everything I would need, including lasagna noodles.  I was confident.  I was completely sure I could wing this recipe.  I was completely clueless.

This is what I was going for…

This is what I got…

Do you see the resemblance?  Yeah, me neither.  I cut the noodles just like I SAW in the pictures.  Except the site didn’t actually show noodle cutting.  It just showed pretty square noodly stuff.  After the fail, I opened up the laptop and took a second look.  You know what those pretty square patches were?  Wonton wrappers.  Yeah, wonton wrappers.  I was foiled by a wrapper.   Well, actually I was foiled by my own laziness and lack of reading.

I will probably try this again at some point.  In the meantime, I highly recommend trying the Can You Stay for Dinner recipe.  It works much better than my lame-ass attempt.  DOH!!
