A Head Wound and some Turnips

So I'm hanging out in the office minding my own business when all of the sudden my head SLAMS into the corner of my desk.  That's right folks, I gave myself a black eye at work with no one else involved. (don't ask - it's a sad, sad little story)  Tis but a flesh wound, I thought to myself.  Then I giggled at my own reference because I'm cool like that.  O.o  Looking at rows of data with a concussion and gaping head wound is NOT in my job description so I packed it up for the day.

I decided to cook up some grub to ease my aching head because in my opinion food fixes every problem.   <I'm sure I wasn't thinking too straight, but that's sort of par for me>   I hadn't been to the store in a while due to all the work hours so I found some CSA turnips and a few onions to work with; not much but it was better than eating spices and bread flour.

I like turnips but I'm not man enough to eat them straight up, so I pulled out my slicer and proceeded to cut up turnip chips.  Looking back, using anything sharp with my head in a state of chaos was an iffy choice at best.  Fate was on my side though, having already caused my noggin injury.  I suppose the sisters thought that was enough for one day.

Right, where was I?  Oh yeah, a recipe.  With turnips.  And nothing else.  Which leaves one with very limited options.  I opted for baked chips.  Funny thing is this recipe actually turned out - like freaking awesome turned out.  The chips were sweet, which was a very nice surprise.  And baking them made my snack healthy, right?  Yeah I'm going with healthy.

There may be a few steps missing, given the ache in my brain.  But the basics should be there.

Head Wound Turnip Chips

  • 5-6 turnips, sliced thin
  • Spray oil
  • Salt

Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees F.  After washing the turnips, slice them into thin, see-through wafers.  Lightly spray oil on a cookie sheet.  Arrange the slices on the sheet in a single layer.  Spray the turnips with oil then salt liberally.  Bake in oven for 15-20 minutes.  Allow to cool on baking racks.  Enjoy!
