She and the excellent Susi are co-hosting another great flash fiction contest I just can't seem to resist: the Once Upon a Time writing contest. It is open until 29th of April and there are already too many good entries to count. I don't envy the judging portion of this contest, that's for sure.
I started my entry post, then went WAY over the 350 word limit. <I know it's a shock to all how wordy I can be> So I began to edit, then rewrite, then it was swoop down the rabbit hole again. Now my story is far from a fairy tale, unexpected or not. It is just dark with a few fairy tale references which means I am back to the drawing board to start my actual entry over.
Thing is, I kinda like my dark story. Which means it's getting posted here as an UN-entry for all 3 of my lovely readers. ^_^
“I saw you talking to Sean.” The smack of skin hitting skin reverberated between the gym lockers. Meloda heard a few gasps but mostly just snickers from Tiffany’s entourage. She could feel the warm beginnings of a bloody nose. Why was the coach never around when Tiffany decided to slap someone silly?
“He’s my chemistry partner; I have to talk to him.”
“Well then you have a problem; because if I see you so much as glance at him again I’m going to kick your ass.”
“Besides,” Tiffany sneered as she grabbed Mel’s shirt, yanking her close, “he’s just using you for the grade. Once he passes chemistry he’ll toss you to the curb like the white trash you are.”
She shoved Mel into the lockers and seized her cheeks in one swift move. Tiffany squeezed until Mel’s lips puffed out like a chubby baby’s. Then she released Mel with a final thrust, clanging her head into the lockers.
Mel sighed. Tiffany, with her expensive jeans and perfect tits, ruled Westover High. Everyone knew it. Everyone except the new kid Sean; he seemed intent on befriending Mel despite the unruly hair and ill-fitting clothes. He also seemed intent on ignoring all the look at my ass poses Tiffany threw his way.
“You know,” Mel rolled off the lockers and planted her feet just inches from Tiffany’s. “He said he could show me hell on the dull side of a knife.” Whispers flew across the locker room - was that a threat, or had she totally flipped; no one stood up to Tiffany. Tiffany gawhaffed in disbelief. Mel’s eyes danced with malice.
“Step off crazy bitch.” Tiffany pushed but Meloda stood her ground.
“I’m not crazy. But I think Sean is; he might even be a little homicidal. He’s convinced I’m a damsel in distress and you’re an evil witch in need of extermination.”
Mel pressed closer to Tiffany and delighted in the fear crawling across the other girl’s face.
“And if you screw with me any more I’m going to let him take my soul just so I can take yours.”

Hehe... I feel a bit 'Twilighty' now ;)
ReplyDeleteHmmm not the spot my head was in but I see it now.
ReplyDeleteCreepy. I do think just a smidgen of polish would make this really shine, in a dark sorta way. I like it.;D
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI'm a orn'ry cuss but I like this one better than the one you entered - agree with - needs a little once-over with the duster but I like it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading both!
