Anyone who has lived on the west side of the Metroplex for any length of time has probably heard of West Side Cafe. It is an old school diner tucked away in a strip mall on Spur 580 (aka Camp Bowie). And yes, it IS by a tattoo parlor. But it has some of the best home cooking in the area. Oh, and did I mention they have pie?
Uh-huh - PIE. Made from scratch, fresh daily pie. Buttermilk, chocolate, dutch apple, and coconut cream usually make the menu. Of course the Hubby says my pies are better but I think that is just because he loves me and knows I can now shoot a gun. o.O
West Side also has non-pie food, like chicken fried steak, catfish, and chicken & dumplings, all served up just like mom used to make. And they are open late which works great for late eaters like myself. But what they are known for (besides pie) is breakfast. They serve breakfast all day which is perfect for night owls who are hardly ever up before noon. They draw a large crowd on weekend mornings; I've even made it in a time or two. (I'm sure there was a fire or some other emergency that pulled me out of bed on a Saturday morning.)
Make sure to check them out if you are ever on the west side of town. You'll be glad you did!
